Bio

 

Renana Atia is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Shasha Center, following the completion of her Ph.D. in the Department of Communication and Journalism at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where she worked under the supervision of Prof. Meital Balmas and Prof. Eran Halperin. In her current research, she is conducting a comparative analysis of emergency management systems across five countries (USA, Japan, France, Germany, and Italy), examining how different governmental structures respond to disasters along five key dimensions.

Her doctoral research examined how media representations can reduce intergroup stereotypes and improve relations between groups in conflict settings. She has published in Media Psychology, Human Communication Research, and the International Journal of Communication. Prior to her doctoral studies, Renana earned her B.A. in Communication and Journalism and Political Science, and her M.A. in Political Communication with a minor in Gender Studies at the Lafer Center for Women and Gender Studies at the Hebrew University. Her work has been recognized with multiple awards, including the President's Program Fellowship for outstanding doctoral students, the Prof. Yaakov Shamir Prize for research in political communication, and the APSA Political Communication SPARK award
